Ixia and NTT Com Test a 100 Gbps Network Between Makuhari (Chiba) and Otemachi (Tokyo)
Ixia’s K2 higher speed Ethernet test solution used to successfully transmit and receive Ethernet traffic at 100 Gbps over LR-4 transceivers using Interop Tokyo’s ShowNet
TOKYO, June 09, 2010 – Ixia(NASDAQ: XXIA), a leading, global provider of converged IP network test solutions, today announced that Ixia’s K2 100Gbps layer 2-7 network test solution was used to validate a next generation ultra high speed network between Makuhari (Chiba) and Otemachi (Tokyo) via LR-4 transceivers. The test transmitted traffic over 50 kilometers using NTT Communications equipment and Ixia’s K2 higher speed test (HSE) test solution.
Ixia’s K2 100 GE test solution both employed Opnext’s CFP 100GBASE-LR4 transceivers which are compliant to the CFP MSA and IEEE P802.3ba draft standard. 100GBASE-LR4 operates by running two single-mode fibers, each running at 25 Gbps, with a different wavelength per fiber. 100GBASE-LR4 is designed to transmit data up to 10 kilometers at 100Gbps on a point-to-point link.

During Interop Tokyo, a public demonstration to showcase the next generation ultra high speed network technology was held connecting NTT Communications’ booth to one of their sites in Otemachi, Tokyo via Interop Tokyo’s Shownet (an interoperability test demo environment at Interop Tokyo) in order to test the interoperability and the performance of 100 Gbps routers, switches, and transmission equipment.
Ixia’s converged IP testing solutions enable users to test the performance of network equipment, Internet service and applications. Its recently released 100 GE testing solution, known as K2, is the only module available in the market today that can test IEEE802.3ba standard-based products. The IEEE802.3ba standard is expected to be ratified in June 2010. K2 modules can generate and analyze full 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps layer 1-7 line rate traffic with up to 1 million distinct flows per port. Module testing capabilities include such metrics as real-time latency, inter-arrival time, packet loss, data integrity, sequence checking and packet capture.
