Ixia Solution Validates 10 Gigabit Real-World Traffic Performance of Procurve Networking by HP 8212zl Switch
Ixia Tests the Most Resource-Intensive Mix of Services and Applications at 10 GbE Line Rate
CALABASAS, Calif. - (Sept. 27, 2007) - Ixia (NASDAQ: XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP performance test systems, announced that Ixia test solutions successfully verified the performance of the ProCurve Networking by HP 8212zl enterprise core switch. The 8212zl switch was tested for quality and performance on both video and VoIP during a commissioned test with Broadband-Testing Labs the week of Sept. 17, 2007.
"We were able to put the ProCurve 8212zl through the most rigorous batch of real-world tests for five days with the Ixia solution. Running real-world traffic at 10 GbE line rate, Ixia provided us the only solution that could give us all the performance results we needed," said Steve Broadhead, founder and director, Broadband-Testing Labs. "As a starting point for the test, we used ProCurve's own published, claimed performance figures for mixed traffic throughput, maximum routes per port supported and other metrics. In each case we either met or exceeded - in some cases significantly - ProCurve's own claims. The 8212zl is clearly punching above its weight."Ixia's Aptixia IxNetwork solution emulated an enterprise topology with the OSPF routing protocol to fully stress the 8212zl's control plane, and at the same time, with its 10 Gigabit Ethernet XM LAN Services Modules, used 14 Ixia ports that generated 10 GbE line-rate traffic to stress the 8212zl's data plane. The Ixia test ports emulated video on demand, VoIP and HTTP as well as FTP applications across 10,000 advertised OSPF routes from 350 OSPF neighbors to measure the end user's experience of overall service quality. This demonstrated a real converged environment running over the switch.

Test engineers can direct both real-world, stateful application-based and traditional, stateless packet-based network traffic over realistic Internet-scale, emulated IP/MPLS network topologies to determine subscribers' quality of experience.
The 8212zl is an enterprise core 10 GbE switch that strengthens ProCurve's Adaptive EDGE Architecture by delivering advanced capabilities to the network edge to meet the most demanding needs of security and mobility, whilst supporting convergence applications.
