IxSAN
Test FCoE and fibre channel devices using stateful FCP (SCSI) commands over Ethernet
IxSAN is a test application that provides real-world, large-scale emulation of fibre channel protocol (FCP) targets and initiators over Ethernet, providing immense flexibility in testing fibre channel (FC) devices and systems. IxSAN easily replaces JBOD (just a bunch of disks) or disk arrays in design verification test (DVT), quality assurance (QA) and development environments. The ability to configure, save and rapidly restore 100's of different target disk configurations alone makes IxSAN an excellent, cost effective replacement option for fibre channel drives.
IxSAN's ability to emulate a customized storage array or JBOD offers an attractive alternative to physical devices. Additionally, IxSAN provides rapid configurability and performance simulation functionality that cannot be found in physical disks or arrays. IxSAN is a highly versatile and scalable solution for testing the performance and resiliency of storage area networks (SANs) and devices. IxSAN creates real-world traffic scenarios at the SCSI application layer and can emulate FC storage initiators and storage targets in the data center.
IxSAN is supported on DCE enabled, full featured versions of IxYukon 10GbE test modules. Each port includes a FC BB-5 standards-compliant state engine that can emulate hundreds of storage units per port.

IxSAN runs on Ixia's intelligent load modules, emulating targets and initiators while at the same time transmitting standard Ethernet traffic. Ports can be added to reach any level of scale. IxYukon load modules concurrently supporting a number of Ixia test applications.
Flexible Data Transfer SetupIxSAN initiators and targets are controlled independently, simulating transfers from one initiator to multiple targets or from multiple initiators to one target. IxSAN emulates initiator failures and target errors and can transfer data in a custom fashion, simulating real-world traffic patterns.
Test ResultsIxSAN provides an easy to read statistics view with real-time results. Packet-level results can also be simultaneously viewed with Ixia's highly flexible IxExplorer capture viewer. Test results can be displayed in both graphical and tabular format. Results are stored in easy to use text file format for post-test viewing and processing.

| Standards and specifications | |
| FCP-4 | IxSAN fully supports FCP-4, the fourth generation protocol for transporting SCSI communication over Fibre Channel. |
| SAM-5 | IxSAN is compliant with the fifth generation of the SCSI Architecture Model SAM-5, containing definition of the basic commands for all SCSI devices. SPC-5 is used in conjunction with a standard for the specific device types specified in SCSI Block Commands (SBC), Reduced Block Command (RBC), SCSI Stream Commands (SSC), SCSI Media Changer Commands (SMC) and SCSI Enclosure Services (SES). |
| FC-BB-5 | IxSAN supports the Fibre Channel Backbone (FC-BB-5) standards which defines a direct mapping of Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE). FIP: IxSAN supports the FCoE Initialization Protocol (FIP) according to which all FCoE devices use the FIP FLOGI, NPIV FDISC, N_Port LOGO, and ELP procedures in lieu of corresponding Fibre Channel services. |
| FC LS-2 |
Fibre Channel Extended Link Services provides a management and control service for Fibre Channel systems. FC LS-2 incorporates ELSs required for FC-BB-5 (FCoE). FLOGI: Full support for FLOGI when an IxSAN port configured as a fibre channel target or initiator is connected to a fibre channel switch. PLOGI: Full support for PLOGI when an IxSAN port configured as a target or initiator establish a connection with another device. NPIV: N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) allows a single FCP port to register multiple WWPNs with a fabric name server. |
| FC-GS-5 | Fibre Channel Generic Services (FC-GS-5) specifies support for Generic FC services. |
