Test Conductor Jumpstart Implementation Services

Aptixia Test Conductor Jumpstart Implementation Services

Aptixia Test Conductor™ is a comprehensive test automation solution that is both easy to use and highly scalable. Compatible with key Ixia test applications, Test Conductor imports tests, associates them with a named regression, and allows detailed scheduling attributes to be defined. Tests are scheduled based on a Windows™ Outlook-like calendar tool. At-a-glance logs and summary reports allow the engineer to see color-coded pass/fail criteria, as well as the progress of the tests within each regression. Automated device under test (DUT) configuration scripts also may be scheduled to run in synchronization with the individual tests or with complete regression runs.

Test Conductor is a powerful application with many useful features that will increase your productivity and the quality of your tests. To achieve the maximum level of productivity possible, Ixia recommends the jumpstart implementation service. This service is designed to provide you with the necessary information, using your actual test environment to make you proficient using the product as fast as possible.

The Jumpstart Implementation Service is delivered on your premises, using your environment as a working crucible for developing practical Test Conductor test examples. At the end of the service, you and your team are left with customer-specific Test Conductor usage examples that can be uses as practical examples for future implementations.

Prior to delivering the service, someone from Ixia will engage with you and your team to explain the course's goals and objectives and to understand your specific requirements and environment. Details like which test applications are being used and what sort of DUT will be used during the training are all communicated prior to the training so that the delivery of the service is specific to your needs.

Jumpstart Implementation Service

Introduction to Test Conductor

The first day of the service is an introduction to the basics of Test Conductor. It lays the foundation for the remaining days of the service. Before starting the jumpstart, you should feel comfortable with the test application and equipment used during the training. The session covers the following basic concepts and involves lecture and labs based on your test environment:
  • General Test Conductor overview
  • Basic user interface functionality
  • Test importation and configuration
  • Test bed configuration
  • Regression configuration
  • Scheduling
  • Basic reporting capabilities

At the end of the jumpstart, the customer should have a working knowledge of Test Conductor. The jumpstart will generate practical, working examples of tests that have been imported into Test Conductor that can be used for future reference.

Introduction to Composer

Day two and three of the service is an introduction to Composer, the test authoring IDE of Test Conductor. Composer uses a multi-session record/playback mechanism that allows the user to automate multiple devices and test equipment from any test vendor. Prior to starting the Composer training, you should have a working knowledge of the DUT being used during the training and should have a desired test configuration in mind prior to starting the service. The following subjects are covered:
  • Test Composer overview
  • Basic script authoring using Composer
  • Use of Composer procedures to communicate with DUT's
  • Response template & success criteria definition
  • Composer integration of IxExplorer, IxNetwork-FT, or IxLoad
At the end of this section, the customer should have a working knowledge of DUT configuration and advanced test authoring using Composer. This jumpstart results in practical, working examples of Composer tests that have been incorporated into Test Conductor.

Test Management Best Practices

On days four and five, we work with you to develop a strategy for how best to develop a strategy for deploying test automation in your environment, with a focus on how Test Conductor fits into the strategy. Test management can be implemented in a variety of ways, and some of the practical choices about how to deploy it need to be made based on your organization's lab configurations and testing processes. Ixia will provide guidance on these decisions and help you develop a plan for rolling out Test Conductor. Prior to discussing the strategy during these days, you should be prepared to describe the current testing environment and any constraints that may exist. The following topics are covered:
  • Basic architecture overview of Test Conductor and Ixia test applications
  • Versioning support in Test Conductor
  • Testbed management
  • Device profiles
  • Scheduling best practices
  • DUT configuration management
  • Test case creation for maximum reusability

At the end of the jumpstart, you and your team should have a working knowledge of how best organize tests, procedures, device profiles, test beds and how to manage a multi-user test lab environment.

Total Duration: 5 days
