National Cyber Security Awareness Month 2018 Kickoff

October 1, 2018 by Jason Lackey

The Ixia Solutions Group is proud to participate in National Cyber Security Awareness Month again this year, just like we did last year. As technology, our infrastructure and possessions all become increasingly networked, with more and more things from thermostats to rubber ducks joining the Internet of Things, the impact of cyber crime also increases. Indeed, Cybersecurity Ventures predicts a global price tag of $6 trillion a year by 2021, representing a doubling of the $3 trillion figure for 2015.

This year, like last year, we will be posting blogs, tips and other useful information. Be sure to tune in to our Twitter feed, @ixiacom and follow us on Facebook for the latest and greatest.

Also, this year, like last year, the month of October is broken up into focus topic weeks:

  • Week 1 (Oct 1-5): Make Your Home a Haven for Online Safety
  • Week 2 (Oct 8-12): Millions of Rewarding Jobs: Educating for a Career in Cybersecurity
  • Week 3 (Oct 15-19): It's Everyone's Job to Ensure Online Safety at Work
  • Week 4 (Oct 22-26): Safeguarding the Nation's Critical Infrastructure

We will take these topic weeks as a rough guide, but don’t be too surprised if we occasionally take you on an interesting tangent outside this rough framework. Long and short of it is that as technology and networking become more ubiquitous throughout everything we own and do, so should cyber security. As the spread of the Internet of Things and the coming of the digitalization of everything continue, so rises the risk and potential exposure to cyber threats. Now, more than ever, bad things happening in cyberspace can impact real things happening in meat space. No longer just blinking lights and glowing ones and zeros on a screen in the dark, these are things that can impact your house, your car, national infrastructure and, for some, even their rubber ducks.
