Tutorial: How to Install and Activate a BreakingPoint Virtual Edition License

April 27, 2015 by Ixia Blog Team

BreakingPoint Virtual Edition (BPS VE) gives Enterprise IT administrators a powerful new tool for adding scale, realism and security to their testing environments. BPS VE is functionally the same as BreakingPoint on PerfectStorm, but offers the added benefits and flexibility of being a virtual machine (VM). As a VM, Enterprise IT administrators can deploy BPS VE quickly across geo-diverse locations and conduct detailed applications and security testing. And, because BPS VE is delivered in standard OVF format, it plays nicely with VMware ESXi.

To help new users get acquainted with BPS VE, I have created a step-by-step video on how to install and activate the license. The video covers:

  • Test topology used in the video example
  • Installation prerequisites
  • OVA deployment and configuring a BreakingPoint system controller
  • Using the Web GUI to add and configure virtual blades
  • Verifying installation
  • Activating the license

I hope you find this video presentation helpful.

NOTE: For those who would like to jump right in and install the BPS VE license while watching the video, I have listed the prerequisites here. Be sure to have these items in place before getting started.

Prerequisites

  • VMware ESX 5.5 installed
  • A management switch and test switches installed
  • BPS-VE OVA image
  • A DHCP server
  • A valid BPS VE license
