Adding Scale and Security Testing to VMware Environments

Testing applications for security vulnerabilities is a major part of agile cloud development practices, as well as of practices dictated by the DevOps movement. However, doing so within virtual environments often requires expensive hardware; network hairpins; or exposing untested, still-in-development applications to cloud services. The goal is to be able to test your next generation of applications within your existing virtual environment at a lower cost and without major networking constraints.

This paper explores how testing applications for throughput, security, and other failures while in development should be part of your agile development process. Without testing, applications get sent out into production with glaring security vulnerabilities that allow an attacker to infiltrate a network and cause havoc, steal secrets, or hold a company for ransom. Security testing applications earlier in the software development lifecycle is an important part of solving these ongoing issues.
