Accelerating SmartNIC Adoption With Empirical Validation
When it comes to compute in telco networks or hyper-scale data center environments, low power consumption and high efficiency are critical to support scale-out, cloud-based services, and workloads. At the same time, there is an ongoing explosion in customers, data, and services, which puts extreme pressure on service providers and data center administrators to increase server performance and productivity while still keeping their operational costs down.
Smart network interface cards (SmartNICs) are becoming a tool of choice to achieve these goals through offload and acceleration—to deliver maximum performance that supports efficient, scalable, programmable, and highly secure software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) solutions.
SmartNICs help virtualize network storage, graphics processing units (GPUs), or other neural network processors to provide any server access to network processing and elastic storage as needed. In many cases, SmartNICs can be used instead of software-defined storage and hyperconverged infrastructure that employ a CPU-intensive management layer to virtualize and abstract local network and storage.
